Any change in season in Delhi brings its share of health issues and allergies. This winter was nothing new, four-year-old, Prashansha, fell sick with a cough, cold and fever. Although the fever subsided after a few days, her cough and cold continued. When the fever came back after a few days and the otherwise very active child, had become weak. Not getting any relief from home remedies, her mother Subharna, decided to consult a paediatrician. On examining the child, the doctor started asking her a battery of questions related to her child’s general health, which included, whether she felt breathless, any fainting episodes and many more. The mother could sense something was amiss. She had never experienced any issues with Prashansha’s health who was an ever-active, bubbling child.
The doctor advised her to consult a pediatric cardiologist for her daughter’s heart evaluation. This sent a chill through her spine but she did as advise. As she entered the doctor’s cabin, she prayed and wished for her daughter’s health. But the terrible shock came when posting an echocardiography diagnosis, the pediatric cardiologist shared that beautiful Prashansha had a large Cardiac Mass in Interventricular Septum in the heart and needed emergency treatment.
Subharna belongs to the Darjeeling district in West Bengal and has been working as a housekeeper with a family in Delhi for the past fifteen years. Her family’s monthly income is twenty thousand only. The estimated cost of treatment is 5 Lakhs. The family can in no way be able to organise such a huge amount.
They have started fundraising for their child’s treatment through Child Heart Foundation, an NGO working with children born with heart disease from underprivileged families. All donations would be issued an 80G tax exemption receipt.
Please help us in raising funds for Prashasha’s surgery and save her life!
